Tuition and Fees

SFA offers many exemptions and waivers, but students are responsible for applying these exemptions and waivers and ensuring they're processed accurately each term.

While reviewing the information on this page, keep in mind that SFA uses the following definitions:

• Exemption: SFA does not charge the student the tuition and fees toward which the exemption applies.
• Waiver: SFA reduces nonresident tuition rates to Texas resident tuition rates.

If you view the Texas Education Code cross-references, remember that the Texas Legislature uses the words "exemption" and "waiver" interchangeably. SFA does not.

Exemption and waiver application/processing deadlines

With the exception of the Hazlewood Act Exemption for Texas Veterans, the following deadlines apply for applications and processing:

• 20th class day during the full fall and spring terms
• 15th class day during the summer I and II parts-of-term
• 4th class day during Maymester

Late registration charges

Students are responsible for any tuition and fees not covered by the exemption and/or waiver. If those are not paid, late charges will be applied.

Enrollment or withdrawal by official reporting day

Students must be enrolled in all their courses for each term by the official reporting day for their exemptions and/or waivers to apply. Withdrawal from the university prior to the official reporting day results in the removal of exemptions and/or waivers from the student's account, which may lead to the student owing money to SFA.

• Blind, deaf students
• Children of disabled firefighters and law enforcement officers
• Children of prisoners of war or persons missing in action
• Children of professional nursing program faculty
• Education benefits for certain survivors
• Firefighters enrolled in fire science courses
• Highest ranking high school graduates
• Members of state military forces
• Participants in military funerals
• Peace officers enrolled in certain courses
• Preceptors for professional nursing education programs
• Senior citizens
• Students enrolled in course for concurrent high school and college-level credit
• Students from other nations of the American hemisphere
• Students under conservatorship of Department of Family Protective Services
• Veterans and other military personnel; dependents

Waivers

• Scholarship student
• Economic development and diversification
• Faculty and dependents
• Foreign service officers
• Teaching or research assistants
• Military personnel and dependents
• NATO agreement
• Nonresident tuition rates at certain institutions
